Avoiding Internet Fraud

• NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION to anyone who calls you over the phone or contacts you via email (bank account number, social security number, PayPal info, etc.)
• GOSECTION8 DOES NOT STORE CREDIT CARD OR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS AND YOU WILL NEVER RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM GO8 OR YOUR PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY ASKING YOU TO VERIFY PERSONAL OR FINANCIAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE.   
• DEAL LOCALLY WITH FAMILIES AND PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON BEFORE EXCHANGING ANY MONEY. WIRING FUNDS TO AN UNKNOWN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD NEVER BE DONE.
• HELP US FIGHT INTERNET FRAUD

• And report fraud to the FTC’s toll free hotline: 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357)

Avoid scams and fraud in dealing with individuals wishing you to use Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order or cash to be sent to another country and/or state.  It is suggested you deal only with local landlords or their agents that can show you the inside of the premise as well as verify they are the owner of the property.  When in doubt, contact your Housing Authority!
